i avoided branding my music with a "dj name" for years, because nothing felt genuine. some people go with hindu-inspired names, but i do not identify as hindu. some people go by their real names, but i have a full time career i'd like to keep separate. some people create a whole new persona. none of that really felt like me.

then one day i brainstorming the problem with my dear friend monica, founder of ecstatic dance dallas, and somehow she helped guide me to the memory of a nickname my dad christened me with as a child.

he always called me katiedid, like a grasshopper, whose alternate name is a katydid. i hadn't connected with this alternate me much since my dad passed. wow. that felt like something.

then, looking into the mythology of grasshoppers, they symbolize immortality and good luck. they are extraordinary at taking giant leaps to get where they want to go. and damn if they don't make beautiful music.

thus, i arrived at the name katiedid to take my music career to the next level. and here we are.
